What are joint injections?
Joint injections are medications that Dr. Bux injects into your joints to relieve pain. People experience joint pain for many reasons, including degenerative conditions, injury, and overuse.
When your joints are damaged or become inflamed, they can be stiff and sore. Joint injections relieve this pain and inflammation so that you can regain the pain-free movement of your joints.
Who needs joint injections?
Joint injections can help reduce pain and improve mobility in your joints if you frequently experience:

Stiff, swollen joints become increasingly common as you get older. Many conditions can lead to joint pain, including:
Arthritis
Arthritis is a chronic condition that causes painful, swollen joints. Osteoarthritis, the most common type, develops when the flexible cartilage surrounding your joints begins to degrade. The second most common type is rheumatoid arthritis (RA), an autoimmune condition that inflames the tissues in and around your joints.
Bursitis
Bursitis is a painful condition that inflames the fluid-filled sacs (bursae) that cushion your bones and muscles. While bursitis can develop in nearly any of your joints, it most commonly affects the hips, knees, elbows, and shoulders.

Any type of injury to your joints can lead to chronic joint pain. Often, this happens when your injury hasn’t healed properly.
What happens during joint injections?
A joint injection is a quick, simple procedure that usually takes 15 minutes or less. Once you arrive and sit or lie down, Dr. Bux feels around the affected joint to determine the precise point to give your injection.
He then injects the medication, which should numb your joint. After a short monitoring period, you can return home to recover.
What happens after joint injections?
Joint injections are minimally invasive and relatively painless. You could feel some soreness at the injection site, but this should go away over the next few days. It’s also normal to feel soreness for up to two days in the muscle surrounding your joint. To prevent soreness at the injection site, Dr. Bux recommends using heat and ice therapy.
Most patients begin to feel relief from joint pain within two to seven days of their first injection. For complete relief, you might need additional injections.
